No matter who we are what we do, where and how we live, each and every one of us will inevitably encounter a period in our life when we know
‘Things just aren’t right’.
For some that ‘not right’ feeling is with them for a very long time, influencing almost every part of their lives.
For others it’s sudden and inexplicable onset is just as confusing and worrying.
It is now widely recognised that prolonged anxiety or stress can have detrimental effects on our physical and psychological health. So whether our ‘not right’ feelings have been with us for many years or are as a result of some recent traumatic experience, it is in our best interest to deal with them effectively.
Unfortunately many people still unnecessarily suffer in silence believing (falsely) that to admit that in some way they are not coping will demean them as a person.
Understanding that absolutely anyone can experience periods in life when the ability to cope seems to become impaired, is perhaps the first insight necessary for recovery.
Sometimes painful events from the past re-surface and disrupt our lives in the present.
Or it may be something in our present that we find disturbing, sudden changes in lifestyle or changes in relationships.
Both long and short-term doubts and fears can disrupt our lives and lead to uncomfortable feelings.
It is as these feelings surface that the ability to deal with everyday problems can become overpowered.
When this happens what can we do?
Sharing your situation, your thoughts and feelings with someone who has trained to listen and help you understand your problems is beneficial.
Working with someone who will help you to explore your situation in an accepting non-judgmental way you may gain valuable insights into why and how your experiences affect you in the way they do.
As a trained counsellor and certified ‘Stress Adviser’ I will work with you and help you make that exploration, develop your understanding and help you to find ways to resolve your conflicts.
Stress management for individuals is a form of brief intervention therapy.
Typically clients will attend around six confidential one-hour sessions.
During these sessions the focus will be on identifying the underlying causes of your stress and helping you to understand the physical and psychological effects.
The sessions then continue by providing advice and coaching in the methods you can use to deal with the stress in your life.
The aim is to equip you with the skills to cope better with situations you find stressful.
Appointments can be made by ringing 01483 822160, this number is used solely for stress advice and counselling and any messages or information left will be treated as strictly confidential.
Clients are encouraged to commit to at least six sessions, this is common practice and deemed to be the necessary minimum for effective work to be undertaken. At the end of the sixth session we review progress and this is your opportunity to decide on any future requirements.
All one to one appointments last for approximately 50 minutes and are charged at £25.00 per session.
